The noun test (quiz) consists of 20 questions, each with four multiple-choice answers. Read each question carefully and choose the correct answer from the choices. At the end, you can see your results and score.

Before answering, learn a brief knowledge about nouns:

A noun is one of the important parts of speech. It is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Its major types are:

Proper Noun: A special name of a person or thing. It always starts with a capital letter. Examples: Maria, Paris, Microsoft

Common Noun: A general name for a person, place, or thing. Examples: city, people, dog

Concrete Noun:  A name of something you can see, hear, touch, smell, or taste. Examples: apple, computer, fan

Abstract Noun: A name of an idea or feeling that you cannot touch. Examples: courage, freedom, beauty

Countable Noun: A noun that can be counted and has a singular and plural form. Examples: book, chair, animal

Uncountable Noun: A noun that cannot be counted individually and typically has no plural form. Examples: advice, water, information

Collective Noun: A noun referring to a group of individuals as a single unit. Examples: team, flock, army

Compound Noun: A noun made of two or more words combined. Examples: mouthwash, mother-in-law

In sentences, nouns function as subjects (The dog barked), direct objects (She kicked the ball), indirect objects (He gave the child a toy), and objects of prepositions (It’s on the table).

We make the plural form of a noun by adding -s or -es. But some nouns have irregular plural forms: medium – media, man – men, foot – feet. Some other nouns have the same singular and plural form: fish – fish.

This noun test will help assess whether you correctly understand what a noun is, the types of nouns, and how we use them in writing and speaking.

If the results are 100% correct, you are excellent. But if you score less than 90%, study further to improve your English.

  • 90% and above: Excellent or advanced command.
  • 70–89%: Good foundation.
  • Below 70%: Foundational review needed.

Check the results for your mistakes or wrong answers. They are the weak areas you need to correct and study to improve your English.

If your score is below 70%, it means you need to study further. To answer the questions correctly in a grammar test like this, understand these clearly:

  • What a noun is and its examples
  • The types of nouns and the difference between them
  • Plural forms of regular and irregular nouns
  • How a noun can be used in different parts of a sentence
