The interjection test consists of 20 questions, each with four multiple-choice answers. Read each question carefully and choose the correct answer from the choices. At the end, you can see your results and score.
Before starting, learn a brief knowledge of interjections:
An interjection is a word or short expression used to express a sudden feeling, emotion, reaction, or response. We use it to convey happiness, surprise, sadness, pain, excitement, or hesitation.
We often use interjections at the beginning of a sentence, but they can also occur elsewhere. They are usually a grammatically independent unit in the sentence.
See the interjections in the bolded text:
Wow! That is a beautiful scenery.
Ouch! I hurt my finger.
Oh, I didn’t know you were present.
Interjections are often followed by an exclamation mark (!) when they express strong emotions. We may also use a comma (,) instead when the reaction is mild.
Types of Interjections
Interjections can be classified according to the feelings or reactions they express as follows:
- Joy: Hurray! Yay!
- Surprise: Wow! Oh!
- Sorrow: Alas! Oh no!
- Pain: Ouch! Ow!
- Disgust: Yuck! Ugh!
- Approval: Bravo! Well done!
- Greeting: Hello! Hi!
- Hesitation: Um! Er!Â
We use interjections when we:
1. Express emotions. Example: Hurray! We won the trophy.
2. React to unexpected events. Example: Wow! You completed it so quickly.
3. Express pain or discomfort. Example: Ouch! It really hurts me.
4. Greet people or gain attention. Example: Hey! Wait for a second.
5. Make conversations more natural. Example: Um, I’m not sure about the postponement.

How to Improve Your Score
After the test is completed, see your score:
- 90% and above: Excellent or advanced command.
- 70–89%: Good foundation.
- Below 70%: Foundational review needed.
Check your mistakes or wrong answers in the results. They are the weak areas you need to focus on for study.
Especially if your score is below 70%, it means you need to study more. To answer the questions correctly in a grammar test like this, learn these clearly:
- What an interjection is and examples
- Types of interjections and how we use them in everyday sentences
- Punctuation rules (exclamation mark, comma, and question mark)
- The difference between interjections that can stand alone and those that belong to other words in a sentence
