Before starting, learn a brief knowledge of Subject–Verb Agreement:

Subject–verb agreement is the grammatical rule that requires a verb to agree with its subject in number and person in a sentence. In the simple present tense, singular third-person subjects generally take verbs ending in -s or -es, while plural subjects use the verb’s base form.

Examples:

  • She works in an office.

  • They work in an office.

  • He does his homework.

  • We do our homework.

Important Rules of Subject-Verb Agreement:

1. Use a singular verb with a singular subject. Example: My brother plays boxing.

2. Use a plural verb with a plural subject. Example: They live in Imphal.

3. Two subjects joined by and generally take a plural verb. Example: John and I are classmates.

4. With subjects joined by or or nor, the verb generally agrees with the subject closest to it. Example: Either the students or the Principal is responsible.

5. The verb agrees with the main subject, not with a noun in a modifying phrase. Example: The students in the class are friendly.

6. Indefinite pronouns such as everyone, somebody, each, and nobody generally take singular verbs. Example: Everyone is right.

7. Uncountable nouns generally take singular verbs. Example: The house looks expensive.

Remember: Before choosing a verb in your sentence, identify the main subject and determine whether it is singular or plural. Then check the tense and sentence structure.

The test assesses whether you correctly understand what subject-verb agreement is and its correct uses in daily English sentences.
