A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence. It helps us combine ideas and make our sentences smoother and more meaningful.
The bolded words in the examples are conjunctions:

I wanted to go out, but it was raining.
You can have tea or coffee.
Important Types of Conjunctions
1. Coordinating Conjunctions are the conjunctions that connect words, phrases, or independent clauses of equal grammatical importance. They are seven in number (called FANBOYS): for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so.
Examples:
She bought apples and oranges. (Connects words)
He was tired, but he continued working. (Connects independent clauses)
Hurry up, or you will miss the bus. (Expresses a choice or consequence)
2. Subordinating Conjunctions are the conjunctions that connect a dependent clause to an independent clause. They include because, although, if, when, while, since, unless, and before.
Examples:
I stayed home because I was sick. (Reason)
Although it was raining, we went outside. (Contrast)
Call me when you arrive. (Time)
If you study regularly, you will improve. (Condition)
3. Correlative Conjunctions are the conjunctions that work in pairs to connect related words, phrases, or clauses. They include either…or, neither…nor, both…and, not only…but also, and whether…or.
Examples:
Either Rahul or Amit will lead the team.
Both the teacher and the students were present.
She is not only intelligent but also hardworking.
Remember to maintain parallel structure when using conjunctions. Example: She enjoys reading and writing. (Incorrect: She enjoys to read and writing.)
